Pace Yourself!


I've always been an athlete.  Up until my Senior year of High School I had was on lots of teams for lots of things! Soccer-- 12 years, softball - 2 years, Track - 2 years, swimming - 1 year, and many other extra curricular kind of sports.  While I have missed being able to be part of a team, I have not really missed the practices; man were they a kick in the butt.  I've NEVER in my life have thought of running a marathon, because I don't really like running.  Playing soccer many people think its all running.  While you have to be in good shape there was also a tangible goal, a tangible object that you were running towards.  With running, like Cross Country, I thought "I would never like that"....You're just running for the heck of it. No thanks!

So, that's been my philosophy on running.  Didn't really like it, could do it, but didn't do it by choice.  Well, last night I sat thinking about something someone had said at a church service and realized I should run the LA marathon.  Maybe it was watching the olympics and seeing the 41 year old swimmer who had a baby making world record times, or something like that, that inspired me to get back into shape.  Nothing like prepping myself or pacing, naw...just shoot straight into a full marathon.  I know I can do it.  Basically, if you're training yourself it's about 90% mental and 10% physical training ability.  You have to train and get your body into shape and eat certain ways, but seriously I know mentally I can do it.  

So here is my official declaration of my goal to run a marathon.  One of my bucket list items, mind you.  I don't know if I'll make it until March.  March 1, 2008 is the run date.  My work schedule is crazy, my husbands schedule is crazy and I don't know when I'm going to learn to pace myself for 26.2 miles, but I'm gonna try! Keep ya posted and my training!

  1. Good luck on the marathon! I actually like running, but only inside with the AC on!
